Targeting phonological recoding to support orthographic learning: effectiveness of WordDriver delivered via telehealth

چکیده
Fluent word recognition is an essential component of skilled reading, yet most children with reading difficulty have impaired recognition. We developed and evaluated a web app, WordDriver, delivered via teletherapy, which targets phonological recoding to support orthographic learning efficient Participants were five (aged 7–10 years) who, despite previous intervention using systematic, synthetic phonics approach, demonstrated persistent impairment. Two studies, each single case experimental design examined changes in decoding accuracy (study 1) 2) as measured by researcher-developed nonword spelling lists, standardised assessments. Results suggested that all participants, irrespective oral language processing profiles, made significant gains for targeted vowel digraphs on assessments, clinically measures decoding, trends generalisation spelling.

Phonological recoding under articulatory suppression
We report data from an experiment in which participants performed immediate serial recall of visually presented words with or without articulatory suppression, while also performing homophone or rhyme detection. The separation between homophonous or rhyming pairs in the list was varied. According to the working memory model (Baddeley, 1986; Baddeley & Hitch, 1974), suppression should prevent ar...
متن کاملAre there orthographic impairments in phonological dyslexia?
Two hypotheses have been advanced concerning the basis of acquired phonological dyslexia. According to the dual-route model, the pattern derives from impaired grapheme-phoneme conversion. According to the phonological impairment hypothesis, it derives from impaired representation and use of phonology. Effects of graphemic complexity and visual similarity observed in studies by Howard and Best (...
متن کاملRelating distinctive orthographic and phonological processes to episodic memory performance.
Three experiments examined the role of three distinctive perceptual factors in recognition and recall memory. Using a subject-paced presentation rate, the first two experiments (recognition and recall) examined (1) the number of phonological-to-orthographic neighbors, (2) phonological-to-orthographic consistency, and (3) orthographic-to-phonological consistency. The third experiment (recall) re...
متن کاملwillingness to communicate in the iranian context: language learning orientation and social support
why some learners are willing to communicate in english, concurrently others are not, has been an intensive investigation in l2 education. willingness to communicate (wtc) proposed as initiating to communicate while given a choice has recently played a crucial role in l2 learning. it was hypothesized that wtc would be associated with language learning orientations (llos) as well as social suppo...
Depth of phonological recoding in short-term memory.
In testing the hypothesis that surface phonetic form is included in short-term memory (STM) representation, the tone sandhi phenomenon in Mandarin Chinese was exploited, and, as a prerequisite, the hypothesis that tonal similarity affects STM of verbal material in a tone language was also tested. In Experiment 1, subjects recalled visually presented sequences of seven monosyllabic Chinese morph...
